Reps. Howse & Clyde: The pay gap for women across the nation persists – Plain Dealer

Letter to the editor:

In an age when a woman is a leading candidate for president it may come as a shock that women earn significantly less than their male counterparts for the same job. But, despite the progress made since the federal Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, the pay gap for women across the nation persists.

In Ohio, women earn 78 percent of what their male counterparts make doing the same job. The disparity deepens among women of color.

Belmont County Commissioner Ginny Favede running for higher office – WTOV

A Belmont County commissioner’s run for the Ohio House of Representatives officially began at her campaign kick-off on Thursday.

Ginny Favede, joined by prominent Democrats, spoke about her goals. Favede says she is excited about the possibility of serving Belmont, Carroll, Harrison, Noble and Washington Counties.

Ohio Democrats Lay Out Economic Agenda For 2016 – AP

Bills to increase Ohio’s minimum wage, expand options for paid family leave, and promote equal pay for women are among a package of legislation that state Democratic lawmakers are pushing.

On Wednesday, Democratic leaders in the Legislature told reporters at a Statehouse news conference that they’re focused on bolstering Ohio’s economy and its middle class, while suggesting their Republican counterparts are focused on politics.

Council President Pro Tem Watkinson to run for legislature – North Ridgeville Press

On Jan. 11, Sheffield Village Council President Pro Tem Kevin Watkinson resigned from that position, which he had held for five consecutive years, to campaign to replace Republican incumbent Nathan Manning of Avon in the District 55 Ohio House of Representatives post. Village Council members then elected Joe Koster as president pro tem.

Koster was elected to council in his own right Nov. 3, 2015, after having been appointed to his council seat after the October 2013 resignation of Walter Min.

Joe Begeny seeks Ohio House seat – This Week News

Reynoldsburg school board member Joe Begeny announced Friday, Dec. 11, he has submitted petitions to run for the 71st Ohio House of Representatives, hoping to unseat incumbent Scott Ryan.

Ryan’s term expires Dec. 2016, so Begeny would be giving up his last year as a school board member, since his four-year term does not expire until December 2017.
